Q:  When will the updated ANSI/APSP/ICC-7 Suction Entrapment
Standard be
          available? What are the
expected updates?

A: ANSI/PHTA/ICC-7 2020
American National Standard for Suction Entrapment Avoidance in Swimming Pools,
Wading Pools, Spas, Hot Tubs, and Catch Basins is available for purchase now
through PHTA at phta.org.

There are several changes to the standard. Flow rates
will need to be verified after a project is finished by using a vacuum and
pressure gauge, or by using a flow meter that is installed per the manufacturer’s
instructions. There is now a simplified TDH calculation; maximum flow rate for
both secured and unsecured methods; revised definitions for several terms
consistent with those used in ANSI/APSP/ICC-16. The term design flow rate will
be used to determine the correct pipe size; maximum flow rate will be used to
determine the correct suction outlet cover.
