FSPA was even more involved in the Future Builders of America Leadership Summit than last year.  More involvement in the actual event and more donations!  Local Chapters got involved and donated money for scholarships for kids to attend the event.

FSPA participated in a big way facilitating the donation and replacement of the camp’s old commercial filter and pump system.  Members and students replaced it with a new, donated AquaWorx vacuum DE system equipped with Pentair Water Products equipment. Twelve FSPA members spent two days, with more than 65 students completing the hands-on project.

Students were introduced to the task on hand as well as the many other aspects of the swimming pool industry.  They participated in the removal and installation of the new equipment.  All of the students in attendance have a goal of pursuing a career in the trades. For many of these students, this was their first introduction to the swimming pool industry. All of the FSPA volunteers present had an opportunity to share information about their careers and how they started working in the industry. FSPA has been a participating sponsor of the event since 2013 and looks forward to contributing in the future.

Future Builders of America hosted its first Leadership Camp in 2004 at the FFA facility in Haines City, Florida. Just seven students attended the first event but it was such a success that five of the original seven students returned the following year, and they brought friends. Through the dedication and hard work of the camp committee, countless volunteers, donors and FHBA’s own inspirational staff, the Leadership Camp has grown since its inception in both quantity of students and quality of programs.

Special thank you to AquaWorx and Pentair Water Products! The generous donation of equipment made this project possible!

“We met several young people who showed initiative, great attitude and eagerness to learn. I am definitely planning on coming back next year, and I am pretty confident to say that the other FSPA members who were present enjoyed participating. We could definitely think of a few activities we can have for the students to learn, such as vacuuming the pool, testing the water, replacing the waterline tile, painting the deck, etc.”

“With dwindling skilled people coming into our industry it’s more important than ever for our industry to find its way in front of kids looking for a career in the trades. The FBA does just that. Personally, I’m really happy FSPA has gotten involved with as it was great experience working with kids to show our trade as another option.” -Ken Moyer, Mid-South/Brenntag
