Hurricane Pool Protection Checklist

Be Prepared: Hurricane Season is June 1 – November 30

BEFORE THE STORM

  • Keep It Full: Do not drain your pool. Water weight prevents “pool popping” from ground pressure.
  • Trim & Tidy: Cut branches and remove loose debris.
  • Shock the Pool: Super chlorinate in case of power loss.
  • Power Down: Turn off breakers; cover equipment.
  • Secure Items: Bring furniture/toys indoors.

DURING THE STORM

  • Stay Safe: Remain indoors. Do not use the pool.

AFTER THE STORM

  • Inspect First: Ensure equipment is dry before restoring power. Check wiring and breakers.
  • Clean Safely: Remove large debris by hand, avoid damaging surfaces or clogging equipment.
  • Balance Water: Test, adjust chemicals, and reset timers.
  • Water Level: Drain excess rainwater only to normal level.

CLEAN-UP TIPS

  • Never Drain Your Pool: Risk of serious structural damage (“pool popping”).
  • Remove Debris First: Use a net; avoid running system if clogged or damaged.
  • Check Equipment: Flooded systems likely need professional repair.
  • Call a Pro if Needed: If you can’t see the bottom or damage is severe, hire a licensed contractor.
